Dig Bala :-Dig Bala is the strength of planetary directions, i.e. their position relative to the angles of the chart.
Signification :-Digbala has high influence on the effects of the planets.
Planets with high Digbala will have auspicious effects in the direction of their strength.
Planets with bad Digbala will cause losses and difficulties in their direction of strength or the opposite direction.

Remark: It is difficult to determine the correct direction in which events will take place because there are different views of planetary directions. Digbala is the source of strength but events may take place in the directions attributed to the planets, i.e.

Sun: east
Saturn: west
Mercury: north
Mars: south
Jupiter: north-east
Rahu: south-west
Moon: north-west
Venus: north-east

1.     Lagna -> East -> Jup & Mer has Digbala
2.     4th House -> North ->Mon & Ven has Digbala
3.     7th House -> West -> Sat has Digbala
4.     10th House -> South -> Mars & Sun has Digbala
Calculation
Each planet has directional strength in an angle of the chart. These points of strength are: the cusp of 1st house (Ascandant), 7th house (Descendant), 4th house (Nadir, Imum Coeli) or 10th house (Meridian, Medium Coeli).
Sun and Mars are strong in the 10th, Jupiter and Mercury in the Ascendant, Moon and Venus in the 4th and Saturn in the 7th.
Dig Bala of a planet is the distance between his position and the corresponding point of mimimum strength (in Virupas). Values greater than 180° or 60 Virupas must be deducted from 360° resp. 120 Virupas, so the Dig Bala of a planet must be between zero and 60 Virupas.
The table below shows the strongest and weakest points of Dig Bala for the planets.

Sat      in 7th H

Examples :-
1. Let Moon be in 3° Taurus and Meridian in 17° Cancer. Dig Bala of the Moon is therefore
Digbala = ( 97° - 33° ) / 3 = 64/3 = 21 Virupas
2. Let Sun be in 12° Capricorn and Ascendant in 23° Cancer. Dig Bala of the Sun must be calculated from the Descendant i.e. 23° Capricorn
Digbala = ( 293° - 272° ) / 3 = 21/3 = 7 Virupas
·        In the above horoscope, Saturn in 10th House.Hence for Lagnadhipati 50% Digbala.
·        2nd Lord is also Saturn and has 50% Digbala.
·        Jupiter is very near to Ascendant and hence more Digbala.
·        Ven in 4th H has more Digbala. However, here in this horoscope, Ven is far from 4th H. Hence Digbala is less.
·        Sun is in 10th H and hence 100% Digbala.
·        Mon is equivalent to Saturn. Hence Lagna Bhava and Dhana Bhavas are very Strong.
·        Mars is Neutral to Moon. Mars and Sun are temporary friends as well as Natural Friends in this horoscope. Hence Mars and Sun are Combined Friend or Adhi Mitra.
·        Jup becomes temporary enemy and is Natural Friend. Hence Jupiter is Neutral to Mars.

Some of the Dictums:-
1.     Sun in 5th                            Not Good.
2.     Mon in 8th                         Not Good.
3.     Mars in 7th                         Not Good.
4.     Mer in 4th                           Not Good
5.     Jup in 3rd                            Not Good
6.     Ven in 6th                            Not Good
7.     Sat in 1st                              Not Good.
8.     Note :- Upachays should always occupy “Ashubha” Planets.
9.      H        =         Harsha Yoga         12th Lord in 12th House
10.                        S         =         Sarala Yoga                       8th Lord in 8th House.
11.                        V        =         Vimala Yoga                     6th Lord in 6th House.

12.                        Sun is in 5th Navamsha from its existing rashi Libra in D1-Chart. It means Sun is in 14*27’. Hence Sun is in Swati-3 Pada. Since Kumbha is Odd Rashi or Besa Sankhe , between 12 –18 , it will be in Yauvana Avastha. It is because, in Rashi Chart Sun is in Chara Rashi.

13.                        Moon is in  Makara Rashi, which is Chara Rashi and its Navamsha is in  Aries, which is just 4th Amsha from where Moon is. It means moon must be in between 3*20’ + 3*20’ +3*20’ +3*20’ = 13*20’, which is Sravana-1. We observe that Moon is in 11*52’ . Since Capricorn is Besa (Even) Sankhe, it must be in Proudha Avastha.

14.                       Mars in Sagittarius which is odd sign (Sama Rashi) and in Navamsha it is in Scorpio which is Vyamsha (12th Sign) from Mars in D-1 Chart. It means Mars must be around 24* (3*20’ +3*20’ + 3*20’ +3*20’ +3*20’ +3*20 +3*20 =23*20’) .Since Mars’ degree is 24*57’, it is in 8th Navamsha which is Purvashadha -4 Charana. Since Mars in Odd sign, and in Dvisvabhava, it should be calculated from Aries. Hence Navamsha falls to Scorpio. For Sama Rashi, Mars will be in Balya Avastha.

15.                       How to count Navamsha?

a.     If Agnit Tatwa Rashis like Aries, Leo & Sagttarius, it should be counted from Aries.
b.     If Pruthvi Tatwa Rashis like Vrushabha, Kanya & Capricorn, then it should be counted from  Capricorn
c.      If Vayu Tatwa Rashis, it should be counted from Libra, another Vayau Tatwa Rashi.
d.     Jala Tatwa rashis like Karka, Vruschika and Meena Rashis, Navamsha counted from Karka Rashi.
16.                        Another way of calculation of Navamsha:-
a.     Say for example, in my chart Mars in D-1 Chart is in Sagittarius at 3*41’03”. Take its previous Rashi Scorpio which is 8th House from Aries.
b.     Multiply the number 8 (Scorpio’s position from Aries) multiply by 9 = 72 Plus its Navmasha position. (For example Mars is in 3*41’03” means Mars will be in 2nd Navamsha.) So Add 2 to 72 which comes to 74.
c.      Now devide 74 by 12 and reminder comes to 2. It means, Navamsha position of Mars in D-9 chart will be in Taurus.
d.     Example 2:- Again Jupiter is in Aries. Its’ previous Rashi is Pisces which is 12th ashi. Hence 12 * 9 =108. Jupiter is in 26*31’09”, means it is in 8th Navamsha. So add 8 to 108 come to 116. This 116 must be devided by 12 comes to 8 as reminder. 8th House from Aries comes to Scorpio which is the place of Jupiter’s navamsh in D-9 Chart.
e.     3rd example is Moon. Moon in Taurus. Its previous rashi is Aries, which is 1st House. 1 * 9=9. Moon in 16* 09’22” means in 5th Navamsha. So add 5 to 9 comes to 14. This 14 devide by 12 comes reminder as 2. So from Aries, it will be in Taurus in D-9 chart, which is Vargottama Navamsha.
f.       Likewise Sun in Virgo. Its previous Rashi is Leo which is 5th House from Aries. So 5 * 9 = 45. Sun is in 21*13’58” means in 7th Navamsha. So add 7 to 45 come to 52. Now this number 52. devide by 12, reminder comes  to 4. So 4th House from Aries will be Cancer. So Sun will be placed in Karka Navamsha in D-9 Chart. Likewise, all other planets can be done in the same manner.
17.                       When the planets become Vargottama? What are the rules? See here below:-
a.     If planets sit in Chara rashi, and if planets in ist pada, i.e. 0* to 3*20’, it will be in Vargottama.
b.     In case of Sthir rashi like Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Kumbha, then planets sitting in 5th Navamsha becomes Vargottama.
c.      In case of Dvisvabhava Rashis like Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Meena, then planets in 9th pada (26*40’) will become Vargottama.
d.     Vargottama Gruha will give Uchchaka Phala.
e.     If planets are in Janma Kundali is conjoined with Papi Gruha, or aspected by papi gruaha or even if in Trik houses like 6, 8 and 12 Houses, even if they are in Navamsha, if their position is good then in its Dasha period, it will give good results.

1.     Venus in Rashi chart in Scorpio means in even rashi or besa rashi. Venus is in 19*51’12” means it is in 6th Navamsha. It is in Vrudhdha Avastha.
2.     Jupiter in Sagittarius and which is odd sign. However it is in 15*06’13”, means in 5th navamsha. Hence it is in Youvana Avastha.
3.     Lagna is in 23*08’37” means Bhava Madhya or Cusp becomes 23*08’37”. So 1st Bhava will be from 8*08’ 37” from Capricorn to  8* 08’37” Aquarius. 2nd Bhava starts from there onwards to 8* 08’37” Aquarius to 8*08’37” Pisces. Likewise other Bhavas. Hence Rahu will automatically come to 4th Bhava.
4.     Please also note that any planet in or near to Bahva Madhya or Cusp will give 100 % results.
5.     If any planet is 15* away from this Bhava Madhya, i.e. 15* away from 23*08’37”, it will give ZERO results or “Phal!”
6.     Sun is at 14*27’02” means it is just around 9* away from Bhava Madhya. Hence Sun will give the native around 40% results only.
7.     Moon is at 11* 52’ 55”, means it is just 12 * away from the Cusp. Hence it will give almost 50% results.
8.     Even Jupiter is at 15* 06’13”. It means, it is just 9* away from the Cusp. Hence Jupiter will give around 40% results.
9.     Venus is at 19*51’12”, means it is just 5* away from the cusp. Hence it will give just 70% (5 * 6=30, means 70%) results only.
10.                       Mercury is at 27*9’26” means, it is just 4 * away from the Cusp or Bhava Madhya. Hence Mercury will give around (4* 6=24, means 76%) 75% results will give to the native. ( Please read System Approach Book for Most effective Planets for these things)
11.                       Rahu and Ketu are exalted in Taurus-Scorpio Axis. Rahu is at 4*47’17” means it is just 11* away from the Cusp. (It is because Bhava Madhya starts from 8*Aries 08’37” to 23*Aries 08’ 38” to 8* Taurus08’ 37” in IV the Bhava.) Hence it is around 23* -30=7 +4=11* away from Bhava Madhya. Hence Rahu will give around 24% results. Please note that Moon is just 11* 52’ in front whereas Rahu is just 11* back!

12.                   Now you look at Navamsha:-

·        Mercury is in his own house.
·        Mars is in his own house.
·        Lagnamsha has gone to 7th Bhava.
·        Navamsha Karaka Venus has gone to his enemy’s house.
·        Lagnamsha Lord has gone to 10th Bhava.
·        Kutumbhadhipati is with Rahu.
·        Saptamadhipati in D-1 chart, viz. Moon has gone to Bhagya Sthan in Navamsha. It means he will get Dowry.
·        Majority planets are in Visible half!
·        Sasa Yog is also created.
·        Moon  is in Sravana-1. Reason being, Moon in Navamsha in Aries. Uttarashadh -3 means Pisces end and hence Sravana-1 in Aries.
·        Up to 2018, June 1st Rahu Dasha will be there.
·        At present Rahu Dasha Chandra Bhukti is running up to 13th May, 2017. Whether his marriage will be going to take place in this 2nd Karaka for Kalatra –Rahu’s Dasha and Moon Bhukti? Or whether it will be taking place in Mars Bhukti? After Shukra or Venus, Rahu may give Marriage during his Dasha period which you please remember.
·        Rahu is in Krittika-3, which is astamadhipati Sun’s Nakshatra.
·        Eventhough, Rahu-Ketu are exalted in Rashi or Lagna chart, it is in Dhusthana or Trik houses in D-9 chart.
·        Rahu is with Astamadhipati and in Astama sthan also!
·        Chandra being Saptamadhipati is in Lagna itself.
·        Please note that saptamadhipati if in 6, 8 and 12, it is not good at all.
·        Saptamadhipati if in 7th place it will be good.
·        Navamsha Lagnadhipati if in Lagna, marriage will be in earlier age!
·        Rahu –Ketu if in 5th Bhava, then Sarpa Dosha exists.
·        22nd Drekkana (Khara) and 64th Navamsha lord will always give troubles.
·        Badhakadhipati in this horoscope is Mars. Mars has got relation with Khara and hence there will be problems to the native!
